SPD officers and K-9 Rav arrest car theft and eluding suspect

Spokane Police Patrol officers responded to a report of a car theft and assault this morning. The stolen vehicle description was shared with SPD Officers and SCSO Deputies. Later in the morning, the stolen vehicle was located by SPD, the driver of the stolen vehicle lost control, crashed, and fled on foot. He was quickly taken into custody with the assistance of K-9 Rav. The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Dustin A. Spears, was arrested on charges of Eluding, Possession of Stolen Property, and a DOC warrant. This investigation is ongoing and additional charges are anticipated.

This morning, just before 7:00 a.m., a citizen called 911 to report that he had been robbed and assaulted and that his Toyota Rav-4 had been stolen. The responding officer shared a description of the stolen vehicle with all Spokane Police Officers and all Spokane County Sheriff's Office Deputies, letting them know to be on the look-out for the stolen vehicle. Just before 11:00 a.m., Ofc. Robert Collins spotted the stolen vehicle near the intersection of Sunset and Rustle in SW Spokane.

The driver of the Rav-4 sped up, lost control of the vehicle, crashed into a utility pole at 13th/Lindeke, and fled the scene on foot. Additional Spokane Police officers responded to the location and K-9 Rav assisted in the search for the suspect. The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Dustin A. Spears, jumped into the river near High Bridge Park. He was quickly arrested for Eluding, Possession of Stolen Property and a DOC warrant. This investigation is ongoing and additional charges are anticipated.
