SPD officers arrest 24-year-old Casey L. Brown for illegally possessing a firearm and other charges after he allegedly stole a rifle in a vehicle prowling.
Yesterday, 4/15/2014, at approximately 2:15 p.m., Spokane Police responded to the area of 3rd and Adams after receiving a report of a man in the area with a shotgun. Officers located and contacted the man, identified as 24-year-old Casey L. Brown. Brown was riding a small bike in the area and had a full-size shotgun sticking out of his backpack. Officers determined Brown was a convicted felon, with two prior felony convictions (Possession of a Controlled Substance and Bail Jumping). It is illegal for a convicted felon to be in possession of a firearm. Brown was arrested. Meth was also located on his person. Through additional investigation, officers determined the shotgun was most likely taken in a vehicle prowling in downtown.
Brown was booked into the Spokane County Jail and faces charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, 2nd Degree Possession of Stolen Property, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Vehicle Prowling, and Possession of Burglary Tools. Brown will appear in court today at 1:30 p.m.
Spokane Police would like to remind citizens to lock vehicle doors and keep valuables out of sight in unattended vehicles.
