Suspect Accused of Firing Shots in Downtown Quickly Arrested

Spokane Police quickly locate and arrest a suspect accused of firing shots in Downtown Spokane early this morning. Shawn R. Denman (31) was booked into the Spokane County Jail on charges of Theft of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.

This morning, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Spokane Police received a call of shots fired near the intersection of N. Division and N. Browne St. The caller told police that several suspects were firing shots into the ground in the parking lot near the Chili’s restaurant and were last seen heading toward the nearby Travelodge.

Spokane Police officers were on-scene 30 seconds after the initial call, rapidly securing the scene around the Chili’s parking lot and working to quickly to locate the suspects thought to be inside the Travelodge. Officers detained three males, matching the description of the individuals accused of firing shots.

After investigation of the incident, officers arrested one suspect, 31-year-old Shawn R. Denman. Denman was booked into the Spokane County Jail on charges of Theft of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. Denman is a convicted felon and therefore unable to possess firearms.

After searching the scene and collecting evidence, officers were able to determine shots had been fired at the nearby Morris and Morris Law Firm building. No one was injured in the incident. The investigation is on-going.

Denman will appear in court today at 1:30 p.m.
