SPD Releases the Name of the Officer Involved in the 11/8/14 Shooting

The Spokane Police Department is releasing the name of the officer involved in the shooting of Domestic Violence Stalking, Stalking and Vehicle Theft suspect, Joseph E. Hensz on November 8, 2014.

The involved officer, Senior Police Officer Mike Roberge, has more than 17 years of experience with the Spokane Police Department and currently works as a Patrol officer.

Officer Roberge has previously worked with SPD’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) and Targeted Crimes Unit (TCU) while assigned to the Gang Enforcement Task Force (GET). Additionally, Officer Roberge has worked in a variety of assignments within the SPD Patrol Division.

Officer Roberge has received the following awards & commendations:

  • 2010 Chief’s Citation Award for his work with the Spokane Regional GangNet System Development and Implementation Team. GangNet is an intelligence database that helps law enforcement agencies share important information about gang activity at a regional and national level.
  • Received Commendations in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2014 for rapid response to a school lock-down, for his polite and helpful assistance to a young man suffering from mental illness, his assistance at the scene of a shooting incident, his skill interviewing a sexual assault suspect, his assistance in apprehending a juvenile suspect within minutes of the individual displaying threatening behavior, his assistance at the scene of a convenience store robbery, his knowledge and presentation skills regarding gangs in Spokane, his involvement in developing a gang emphasis team, and his leadership in the Northwest Gang Investigators Association (2011 Publications Editor, 2013 Vice President, 2014 Training Coordinator).
