Shoplifting arrest leads to recovery of stolen handgun and drugs:

On 04-16-16, Loss Prevention Officers at the General Store detained Kaycee L Wayne, 27, after she was observed shoplifting. Spokane Police Officers Herzog and Kirby responded to the scene. After Wayne was detained, a 9mm pistol was found in her possession.

This pistol had been reported stolen in 2012 and Wayne is prohibited from possessing a firearm due to her past criminal convictions. Wayne was transported to jail where a controlled substance was found concealed on her person.

Wayne was booked for theft, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a controlled substance.

The Spokane Police Department is committed to keeping weapons out of the hands of felons and others legally incapable of being in possession of firearms. This is another example of the great cooperation between businesses and Spokane Police. This originally appeared to be a relatively minor incident but lead to a stolen firearm being removed from a criminal and off the streets.
