At the 78th annual All Civic Military Luncheon, Spokane Police Officer Craig Hamilton was recognized as one of the Civic Persons of the Year by the Spokane Lilac Association. Hamilton has been with Spokane Police Department (SPD) since 2002 and is one of the region’s leaders in tactical K-9 instruction and operation.

Hamilton is a Master Trainer for the Washington State Police Canine Association and has been instrumental in shaping tactical K-9 deployment for SPD and the region. Hamilton is one of three SPD handlers with special deputation from Homeland Security. His deployments with the U.S. Marshal Service have proved very successful as they have apprehended some of the region’s most dangerous individuals.

“Craig’s passion for the development of his partner “Leonidas”, himself, the K-9 Unit and the Department is contagious, advises Sergeant Shawn Kendall. “He is extremely humble, has an uplifting personality, and at the same time holds those around him, including himself, accountable. Working with Craig has made all of us better officers, handlers and people.”

The Spokane Police Department is a full service law enforcement agency dedicated to providing the highest level of police services for its community. The men and women of SPD are committed to protecting the lives of the people they serve, reducing crime through prevention and engaging with community members and visitors.
