A pedestrian sustained non-life threatening injuries in a crash today in North Spokane. The driver of the vehicle did remain on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

On 07/12/16 just after 11:00am., Spokane Police Department received several calls of a vehicle vs pedestrian crash in the northbound lanes of the crosswalk at N. Division St. and E. Everett Ave. AMR EMT’s were the traffic behind the crash, witnessed the incident, and were on scene immediately to provide aid. The 22 year old male pedestrian was transported from the scene to a local hospital where he was being treated for his non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the vehicle who struck the pedestrian remained on scene, and was cooperating with the collision investigation. It does not appear excessive speed or impairment were a factor in the crash. The roadway was temporarily shut down, but has since been reopened.

The Spokane Police Department urges drivers to stay alert and pay attention to vehicles stopped in traffic and pedestrians near the roadway. In the heavy summer traffic it is important to watch for pedestrians attempting to cross the roadway, and be watchful for other vehicles stopped near the crosswalks. Pedestrians are also encouraged to make eye contact or wave at oncoming drivers before crossing, and ensure vehicles are stopped before crossing into the lanes of travel.
