Just before 10 pm Tuesday, November 22 Spokane Police responded to the area of 29th and Howard on what was initially reported as an occupied residential burglary. The homeowner was reportedly in a physical altercation with the suspect who was armed with a gun.

Responding officers located citizens holding the suspect down near the intersection of 29th and Howard. Through further investigation it was discovered that a female homeowner had noticed that a light was on inside her vehicle. She went to her vehicle to turn of the light and discovered a male inside.

The homeowner called for her husband who attempted to detain the suspect. She quickly called 911. The suspect ran from the vehicle with the victims following. They were able to catch up to the suspect and attempted to detain him until police arrived. At one point the suspect produced a realistic looking replica handgun and was disarmed by the victims. Officers arrived shortly after and detained the suspect.

The suspect was identified as 35-year-old Samual A. Clopton. Clopton was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries sustained during the incident. Clopton was booked into the Spokane County Jail for one count of First Degree Robbery.
