The Spokane Police Major Crimes Unit (MCU) has made an arrest in the shooting that left one person dead in west central Spokane yesterday afternoon. Brettly E Sanderson (21) was booked into Spokane County Jail for 2nd Degree Murder.
Yesterday, September 15,2017, just before 1:00pm, Spokane Police responded to the report of a shooting at an apartment in the 2400 block of west Dean. Once on scene, officers found an adult male victim with gunshot wounds, who, despite life saving measures, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The MCU then responded to assist with interviews of witnesses and processing the scene.
At this time, it appears as though Sanderson and the victim were acquaintances and this was not a random occurrence. Investigators were able to follow investigative leads and develop information to take Sanderson into custody. He was taken into custody by the Proactive Anti-Crime Team (PACT) at Mayfair and North Foothills just after 3:00pm yesterday without incident.
Sanderson will be in court at 1:30 on Monday. The Medical Examiner’s Office will release the name of the deceased. Anyone with additional information on this incident who has not already talked with investigators is asked to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.
