SPD investigating injury DUI crash at Ash and Wellesley Ave

On 08-23-18, at about 8:15PM, Spokane Police and Spokane Fire responded to a two vehicle collision at Ash St and Wellesley Ave in Northwest Spokane. Two adult occupants in one vehicle needed to be extracted from their car and sustained serious injuries. Both were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Due to the significant injuries involved Spokane Police Major Crimes Unit collision experts responded to the scene. Their investigation included detailed mapping of the location, as well as witness interviews.

The investigation showed the causing driver was intoxicated and ran a red light, striking the other vehicle. 55-year-old Audrey Bates was arrested for two counts of vehicular assault.

Traffic around the intersection was diverted for several hours, however at the writing of this release all roadways are back open.

SPD currently is engaged in DUI emphasis patrols through the holiday weekend. Please don’t drink and drive. Plan ahead and designate a sober driver, or utilize other forms of transportation. One poor decision can have devastating ramifications for anyone on the road.
