Voyeur caught in N. Spokane retail store

Alert victims and helpful citizens led to the quick apprehension of a voyeurism suspect in N Spokane on Tuesday afternoon. The incident transpired around 2:30 p.m. (08-20-19) at “Hut 8” retail store 6210 N Division St. Two customers of the women’s clothing establishment noticed they were being filmed from an adjacent changing room stall. They quickly drew attention to the situation, and a male suspect rapidly fled the store.

Both the victims and store employees pursued the male, keeping an eye on him until a good Samaritan assisted in detaining the subject until SPD officers arrived a few moments later.

The victims and store employees were able to provide descriptive statements to investigating officers. Probable cause was developed to arrest 29-year-old Zakkary Deboer for voyeurism 1st degree. Several cell phones/electronic devices were recovered at the time of arrest and taken as evidence.

SPD is thankful for the astute victims and store employees, as well as the citizen who helped stop the suspect’s flight.

There is the possibility of additional victims in this incident. If you were in a changing room at the “Hut 8” store from 2 p.m. until 2:45 p.m., you’re asked to call crime check at 509.456.2233 and reference incident 2019-20157583.
