***UPDATE***

This morning at approx. 9:30am, an SPD major crimes detective and a deputy prosecuting attorney saw the suspect, Nicholas Kenneth Wesbrooks (34), in court on an unrelated matter.  The detective had probable cause to arrest Westbrooks for his involvement in the fatal hit and run incident  listed below that occurred on January 6th.   The defendant was taken into custody in connection to the fatal pedestrian vs vehicle call in the release below.

Additional evidence was collected and he was booked into jail for hit and run involving a death.

SPD investigating fatal hit-and-run collision at Trent/Spokane Falls Blvd.

On 01-06-2020 at about 8:20PM SPD, SFD, and AMR ambulance crews responded to Spokane Falls Blvd and Hamilton St regarding a pedestrian vs vehicle collision. An injured adult male was located, and the first responding officers began CPR. Life-saving efforts were continued by medical personnel, however the victim succumbed to their injuries on scene.

Several witnesses informed officers of the direction of the fleeing suspect vehicle. About a mile from the scene officers located the vehicle believed to be involved, which had been abandoned.

Spokane Police Major Crimes Unit traffic investigators responded to the scene, the suspect vehicle was seized for further processing, and officers are working with witnesses and collecting other evidence to develop suspect information. At this time no one has been arrested.
