On January 23, 2020 at a little after 2 pm, Spokane Police responded to a 911 call of a woman that was robbed at gun point outside of the Lowe’s on North Division. A female employee of Lowe’s was walking near the Taco Bell when the suspect approached her from behind and demanded her purse. The suspect had a handgun, or what was intended to be perceived as a handgun, and the victim gave over her belongings. The suspect ran to his car and fled the area.
Spokane Police arrived within a few minutes. While interviewing the victim and witnesses, information was obtained that the suspect was trying to use the victim’s stolen credit card at a nearby gas station. With the keen eye of a SPD officer, the suspect’s vehicle was eventually located near the shopping center parking lot at Market and Garland with a male in the driver’s seat matching the description of the robber. The well trained SPD officers coordinated an effort to keep him from fleeing in the vehicle or on foot and the suspect was arrested with ease and nobody was hurt.
Police were able to recover the purse and items belonging to the victim.
The suspect was identified as 36 year old David P. Haynes. Haynes is a multi-time convicted felon to include a felony conviction for theft of a firearm.
Haynes was booked into the Spokane County jail for 1st degree robbery.
The Spokane Police Department wants to remind everyone to be vigilant and aware of your surroundings. Although these types of crimes do happen, they are rare. The victim did the right thing by providing an excellent and detailed description of the suspect, which aided in his capture.
