SPD Officers respond to a Domestic Violence call involving an ax.

On June 15th, 2020 around 4:00PM SPD Officers responded to a 1st Degree Burglary Domestic Violence call involving a weapon near the 5800 block of W Shawnee Ave. The complainants had informed dispatch that one victim was still inside the residence with the male suspect and was actively involved in a fight with him. A victim told SPD that the suspect had taken an ax from their backyard and smashed it through the rear glass door of the residence to gain entry.

Upon arrival Officers observed the rear glass door to the house was completely shattered, confirming the report of forced entry. Officers could see the suspect, Carl Schneider (34) on top of the victim, there was blood on the walls and floor around the victim, and the victim was lying motionless. Carl appeared to be actively strangling the victim.

The suspect refused to comply with verbal commands to stop. The victim’s condition was unknown and any delay in stopping Carl could have possibly led to more severe injuries and possible death to the victim. A Taser was deployed, Carl immediately gave up and was placed in handcuffs. After giving his statement, Carl was transported to Spokane County Jail where he was booked. The victim was transported to the hospital with a potential skull fracture.
