Spokane Police Officers along with the Spokane Fire Department, AMR, and Avista Utilities responded to a collision at S. Regal Street and E. Thurston Avenue.  One of the vehicle’s drivers was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.  The collision is still under investigation.

On 10/13/2020 at about 11:16 P.M. Spokane Police Officers, along with Spokane Fire Department, medics from AMR, and Linemen from Avista Utilities responded to the area of S. Regal Street and E. Thurston Avenue for a report of a two vehicle collision. SPD Officers were first on-scene and reported one vehicle had gone through a fire hydrant, a power pole and rolled into a fence.  The driver of that vehicle was trapped inside and had to be extricated by SFD.

Initial reports from witnesses and evidence at the scene indicated one vehicle was eastbound on Thurston at a high rate of speed and failed to stop for the stop sign at Regal. That vehicle then collided with a second vehicle traveling southbound on Regal.  The two occupants of the second vehicle, one adult and one juvenile male, were transported to a local hospital where they are expected to be treated and released. The juvenile male passenger sustained serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Spokane Fire Department arrived on-scene to extricate the driver.  After several minutes they were able to get the driver out of the first vehicle and AMR transported him to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

A Major Crimes Collision Team was called out to investigate the crash.

The Medical Examiner will release the deceased driver’s name at a later date.

This crash is still under investigation. If you witnessed it or have any additional information about this incident please call Crime Check at 509-456-2233 reference incident number 2020-20180709.
