Pedestrian struck by vehicle dies in Downtown Spokane

On 12-9-2020 at approximately 7:50PM, Spokane Police Downtown Neighborhood Resource Officers were patrolling the downtown core when they discovered a vehicle vs pedestrian collision at W 3rd Ave and S Howard St. A vehicle had struck a pedestrian and the victim was trapped under the involved vehicle.

SFD units along with AMR arrived to continue life-saving efforts and free the victim. Despite the efforts of all involved the victim succumbed to their injuries on scene. The deceased is an adult male; identification will be made by the medical examiner’s office.

SPD Traffic Unit and Major Crimes Unit (MCU) investigators are processing the scene. Preliminary information led to the arrest of the involved vehicle’s driver, David Macinnes (50). Probable cause was established that Macinnes was under the influence of an intoxicant/substance causing impairment, and he was arrested for vehicular homicide.

The dynamics of the collision, such as where each involved party was positioned, who had the right of way, and any other factors contributing to the incident, are still under investigation by the members of the MCU traffic unit.

W 3rd St from S Wall to S Stevens has been closed for several hours. It I anticipated traffic will be back to normal around midnight.
