A fight at the NorthTown Mall between two brothers ends in gun fire.

Around 10:20 AM today the Spokane Police Department received a 911 call stating that men were getting out of multiple vehicles in the parking lot of NorthTown to fight and some of them had guns.  As that call was being dispatched, SPD received numerous 911 calls of shots fired at the mall.

Over 15 SPD units responded, as they were arriving a male called and advised he had been involved in the incident and had retreated to the other side of the mall in a parking garage.  He complied when officers contacted him and was detained without incident.  He surrendered a firearm and ammunition as well.  Simultaneously other officers were searching for possible victims and other involved parties as well as protecting the crime scene, discovered when shell casings were located in the parking lot between the Barnes and Noble book store and Division Street.

Eventually it was determined that two half-brothers Brendan Rayburn (born in 94) and Jacob Ball, (born in 95) have been in an ongoing dispute and agreed to meet at the mall to fight.   Jacob apparently brought two, as yet unidentified friends and some type of metal pipe. Brendan brought a 9mm handgun. A fight ensued and Jacob struck Brendan with the pipe just below the head in the upper back, Brendan then retrieved the firearm from his vehicle and fired approximately three rounds.  Brendan stated he shot over the other men to scare them. This ended the confrontation.  (Both the mall parking lot and surrounding neighborhoods were searched for potential uninvolved victims, none were found.)

At this time Jacob Ball has been charged with Assault 2nd degree and booked into jail.   Brendan has not been charged with a crime.  The Firearm has been taken as evidence.  The investigation is ongoing.
