Suspect arrested after breaking into downtown Convention Center and barricading himself in a bathroom

On June 2, 2021 at approximately 4:00am, SPD graveyard Officers responded to a report of an in progress commercial burglary at the downtown Convention Center. 911 received a phone call from Convention Center security personnel regarding an individual whom had just broken a window and entered the facility. The suspect was reported to be armed with a metal object.

Officers arrived within minutes and located the shattered window where the suspect made entry into the facility. Officers could hear an individual yelling and followed the sound to a bathroom within the facility. The officers identified themselves as SPD and attempted to enter the bathroom, however the door was locked from the inside.

As the officers attempted to communicate with the suspect from the outside of the bathroom, he began pounding on the interior of the door.

The officers attempted de-escalation, however the suspect remained persistent in his confrontational behavior telling the officers he would not comply in the event he came out of the bathroom, and he intended to kill them.

As attempts to de-escalate his behavior were unsuccessful, a less lethal force option was utilized and he was taken into custody without further incident.

The suspect was identified as Ernest Greenlee (54 y/o). Greenlee was charged with Second Degree Burglary, Third Degree Malicious Mischief, Obstructing a Law Enforcement Officer and Resisting Arrest.
