Standoff concludes with arrest of convicted felon, domestic violence suspect

On June 2, 2021 at approximately 10:45pm, 911 received an open line phone call from a woman in distress in the area of 800 W. Cora Avenue. 911 heard an exchange of yelling between two parties in the background however could not establish communication with the caller. The line remained open and the woman was heard saying she was unable to leave.

911 attempted multiple call backs to the number, but were unsuccessful in reaching the caller. SPD officers responded to investigate the possible domestic violence incident.

Officers arrived on scene and located the victim. The investigation led officers to a neighboring residence where the second party was said to be located. Officers developed probable cause to arrest the victim’s boyfriend.

Officers attempted communication with the suspect however those attempts were unsuccessful. Due to the suspect’s criminal history and being barricaded within a residence, additional on duty personnel from SPD SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) and K9 responded to assist.

A search warrant for the residence was obtained, and officers took the suspect into custody without further incident.

The suspect was identified as Terry Grimm (37 y/o). Grimm was charged with Second Degree Assault (DV), Unlawful Imprisonment (DV), and Interfering with Reporting of Domestic Violence.

Grimm is a convicted felon to include assault with a weapon out of Montana. He is a registered sex offender and currently on federal probation.
