Carjacking suspect on the loose after crime spree nearly spans the breadth of the City.

Update 7/8/21:

Carjacking suspect, Raul Arevalo released from jail on $500 bond less than 3 days after being arrested.

Raul Arevalo has been released from jail on $500 bond, less than 3 days after being arrested for First Degree Robbery and Attempted First Degree Robbery, class A felony charges.

Multiple callers reported this incident during rush hour traffic in downtown Spokane on June 29, 2021. This incident required a multitude of SPD resources during an unprecedented heat wave and delayed response times for other calls for service city-wide.

Update 7/6/21:

Raul Arevalo (23) is in custody and has been charged with First Degree Robbery and Attempted First Degree Robbery.

Original Release 6/29/21:

Today, June 29, 2021, at approximately 4:45 PM, Spokane Police Dispatch received calls regarding a multi-vehicle collision at E 2nd Ave and S Thor St.  Initial witness statements indicated one of the driver’s fled the scene.  As officers arrived on scene, additional information was reported that one of the drivers had actually fled in the other driver’s vehicle after assaulting the victim. 

Additional information was reported to Police Dispatch that there was a vehicle matching the carjacked vehicle from 2nd/Thor speeding into Downtown.  A short time later, another vehicle collision was reported in the area of S Washington St and W 7th Ave involving a vehicle matching the description of the carjacked vehicle.

Witnesses advised the suspect fled the scene of the second collision after attempting to carjack another vehicle.  A perimeter was established and a Police K9 was summoned to the second scene to track the suspect. 

Meanwhile, at the first collision scene, the suspect’s vehicle was found to have been stolen in a carjacking in Oregon.  The suspect in the Oregon carjacking was identified as Raul Arevalo (23) of Hillsboro, OR.  Arevalo is described as a Hispanic male with short dark hair.  He was last seen wearing gray shorts and no shirt.  He is approximately 5ft 11in tall and thin.  This description matches the description of the suspect in the Spokane incidents.  See attached photo of Arevalo.

Aravalo is currently wanted for Robbery 1st Degree and Theft of a Motor Vehicle in regards to the chaos he has caused in Spokane today.
