Chronic downtown offender arrested after stalking a woman for months

On August 17, 2021 Downtown Precinct officers arrested Angelo Lopez (39 y/o) after developing probable cause for Stalking.

In late July, 2021 SPD Downtown Precinct officers responded to a call for service regarding a male exposing himself to a citizen downtown. An unrelated party had taken a photo of the suspect, who officers identified as Lopez. In this case, officers were unable to contact the victim and subsequently unable to pursue criminal charges.

Starting in early June 2021, a separate victim began reporting a transient male following her on a regular basis as she left her residence to walk her dog. The victim contacted SPD on several occasions however officers were unable to develop probable cause.

Officers were able to identify Lopez due to frequent contacts with him in the downtown corridor. SPD officers encouraged the victim to obtain a protection order due to Lopez’s alleged bizarre and persistent behavior, however her application for protection order was denied by the court.

Officers were eventually successful in developing probable cause for Stalking. On August 17, 2021 Lopez was located by Downtown Precinct officers in the area of W. 1st Avenue and S. Madison Street. Lopez was taken into custody without incident.

Lopez is a 5 time convicted felon to include Criminal Mischief-Deadly Weapon, Violation of No Contact/Protection Order, and Third Degree Assault.

Lopez has 36 gross misdemeanor convictions to include 6 convictions for Violation of a No Contact/Protection Order, and Fourth Degree Assault.

Additionally, Lopez has 10 misdemeanor convictions, to include several more convictions for Violation of a No Contact/Protection Order.
