SPD Responds To Multiple Major Incidents over the Weekend

Update 8/18/22:

2nd suspect arrested in the shooting death of a man in early July

On 08/10/2022, a second murder suspect in the death of Michael Materne  – then 36 – was picked up by law enforcement in Pierce County, Washington on an outstanding warrant related to a shooting on 07/03/2022. SPD Major Crimes detectives developed probable cause to arrest Alesha L. Ford – 30 years old – on a 2nd Degree Murder charge.    Ford was transported to Spokane and booked into the Spokane County Jail on 08/11/2022. She is  scheduled for a first court appearance this afternoon 08/18/2022.

This is an ongoing investigation.

Update 7/23/22:

Tonight - 07/23/2022, SPD’s Major Crimes Unit (MCU) detectives arrested 32-year-old Stacy Gerber for murder 2nd degree stemming from the shooting death of Michael Materne. The homicide occurred on July 3rd near a residence in the 5300 block of N Belt St.

Early in the investigation detectives identified Gerber as a potential suspect and later developed probable cause for her arrest. With the facilitation of MCU investigators, Gerber turned herself into police and was taken into custody without incident. This remains an active investigation.

Original Release 7/5/22:

SPD seeking public’s assistance in fatal hit-and-run collision

On 07-05-22 shortly before 2:30AM, SPD responded to a collision involving a pedestrian near N. Ash St and W. Everett Ave in Northwest Spokane. SPD and SFD units discovered a deceased adult female in the roadway, and evidence indicated she had been struck by a vehicle. The involved vehicle did not remain on scene and is currently outstanding.

SPD is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying and locating the suspect vehicle in this incident. The vehicle will have front-end damage, likely to include a damaged windshield. Additionally, SPD is asking that anyone in the area of the collision who has security camera footage (and has not already spoken with investigators) contact SPD at 509-456-2233 reference incident 2022-20114426.

SPD makes murder arrest after body found in Rochester Heights Park.

On 07-01-22 SPD officers were summoned to Rochester Heights Park (1801 E Everett Ave) regarding a deceased body that had been found in the park. SPD located an adult male victim who had suffered obvious trauma from a cutting instrument. Major Crimes Unit (MCU) detectives, the Spokane County Forensics Unit, and the Medical Examiner’s Office all responded to the scene.

MCU detectives followed numerous investigative leads, which included using information and security camera footage provided by astute and helpful community members. In the early morning hours of 07-03-2022, SPD officers were able to locate and arrest 31-year-old Rose Sedin for Murder 1st Degree.

The relationship between Sedin and the victim, along with the surrounding circumstances of the murder, remain under investigation.

SPD MCU continues to investigate drive-by shooting homicide in Northwest Spokane

On 07-03-22, just before 5:30PM, SPD responded to a drive-by shooting near N. Belt St. and W. Everett Ave. An adult male victim was found deceased at the scene. MCU detectives continue to investigate the incident, however the murder does not appear random. At the writing of this release, no arrests have been made.

SPD investigating shooting in the 200 block of S Howard St in Downtown Spokane

On 07-05-2022 just before 5AM, SPD received a call of a person shot in an apartment in Downtown Spokane. SPD located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound, and he was subsequently transported to a local hospital with significant injuries. Multiple individuals have been contacted related to the investigation.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation, however SPD is not currently seeking any additional involved persons.

Vehicle vs. pedestrian collision at E Mission/ N Regal

On 07-05-22 SPD officers responded to a vehicle vs pedestrian collision near E Mission and N Regal St. An adult male was located with serious injuries. The driver of the involved vehicle was contacted by patrol, and ultimately evaluated by a SPD Traffic Unit officer. The investigation showed the driver, identified as 22-year-old Daniel Lamas, was under the influence of an intoxicating substance. Lamas was booked into Spokane County Jail for vehicular assault.

The victim remains in a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
