Spokane Police arrest 5 suspects in a deadly shooting at Franklin Park in late August

Today, 10/06/2022, SPD Major Crimes detectives made five arrests related to a shooting that killed one person and injured three others. Ablos Kios (22) was killed in the early morning hours of 08/27/2022 and three other people survived after being shot. Detectives worked diligently to develop probable cause for the arrests despite the lack of cooperation from witnesses and others at the park. Multiple SPD units including Major Crimes, SWAT, SIU - Special Investigation Unit, and The Violent Crimes Task Force began the arrests at dawn this morning, wrapping up this afternoon. The five suspects were apprehended at various locations throughout Spokane without incident.

Arrested and charged with one count of 2nd Degree Murder and three counts of 1st Degree Assault each are; Landen J. Galbreath, Malachi I. Cook, and Nigel I. Neal – all 18 years old.  Also arrested are Tayona C. Allen (18) for Rendering Criminal Assistance, and a juvenile male who is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. The juvenile may face additional charges.

The four adult suspects were booked into the Spokane County Jail and the juvenile male to Juvenile Detention.

Original Release 8/27/22:

Four people have been shot in the early morning hours of Saturday at Franklin Park in North Spokane. SPD Officers responded to a shooting with at least four victims at the south end of the park, in a parking lot just off Queen Ave.  One male is deceased from what initially appears to be a gunshot wound. 

This morning at 3:15 AM SPD received multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting in the parking lot near the playground on the south end of Franklin Park.  When SPD arrived they found multiple people with gunshot wounds one of whom was deceased.  Three other people were transported to the hospital or treated at the scene, one with life threatening injuries to the head. 

Initial reports indicate there was a dispute that escalated into a shooting, there are no suspects in custody at this time.

The Spokane Police Department Major Crimes Unit has responded and is conducting the investigation. 

Queen Ave. is currently closed to traffic from Division to Calispel Street.
