SPD arrests suspect in Northeast Spokane shooting incident

On 11-2-22, just after 11AM, SPD patrol officers responded to a shooting incident near the 2300 block of E Euclid Ave in Northeast Spokane. SPD officers quickly began gathering information from involved persons and witnesses.

Officers learned an adult male victim had been shot at by an unknown suspect, but the victim was not struck. Information led officers to believe the suspect was still in the vicinity, and a multitude of law enforcement resources were utilized to search the area. Shortly thereafter, 19-year-old Linfield Heran was taken into custody from a residence in the 3300 block of N Altamont St. Heran was later booked into jail for assault 1st degree, and additional charges are possible.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still being ascertained; there appears to have been an interaction between the suspect and victim prior to the shooting, but the nature of that interaction is still being investigated.

Because the incident took place about a block from an elementary school, Bemiss Elementary, and the armed suspect was outstanding, District 81 security was notified and Bemiss was placed in lockdown out of an abundance of caution. That lockdown has now been lifted. Reports circulated online that this was an “active shooter” situation. This incident did not meet the definition of an active shooter event, nor was there any apparent nexus to the nearby school; the incident did not take place on school grounds, nor is there information the suspect was ever on school property.
