SPD arrests armed, wanted, felon after foot chase

On 05-03-2023 at about 6:30AM, SPD received information a subject with multiple outstanding warrants was in the 3900 block of N Market. Additional information indicated the suspect was armed with multiple firearms.

SPD patrol officers as well as SWAT team members responded to the area and began attempting to locate the suspect and develop a plan to safely take him into custody. A short time later, the suspect spotted responding officers and immediately began to flee. Officers chased the male over a fence and into an apartment complex where he was apparently trying to gain access to a random residence. Officers were able to gain compliance from the suspect and take him into custody without further incident.

The suspect, Jarreau S Squetimkin, was armed with two firearms; a handgun was mounted to the chest of a tactical-style vest Squetimkin was wearing, and a cardboard box Squetimkin was carrying contained a 12-guage shotgun. The handgun was later determined to be stolen.

Squetimkin was wanted for five outstanding felony warrants, related to multiple previous cases, for crimes including theft of a motor vehicle, attempting to elude a law enforcement vehicle, unlawful possession of a firearm, and possession of a stolen firearm. Squetimkin was booked into Spokane County Jail for the warrants along with new charges of first degree unlawful possession of a firearm (felon in possession), and possession of a stolen firearm.

Squetimkin is an 18-time convicted felon, which precludes him from legally possessing a firearm, with criminal history that includes riot with a deadly weapon, witness tampering, unlawful possession of a firearm, assault 2nd, and residential burglary.
