On 8/3/23 SPD specialty teams including SWAT and Negotiators surrounded a house on the 4300 block of South Martin in South Spokane to arrest a suspect in a kidnapping/robbery scheme.  After approximately an hour, the suspect, Michael J. Garry (29) surrendered without incident. On 7/21/23, SPD arrested a woman who lived with Garry, Cheyenne Grimm-Harrington (31) for her involvement in the scheme. An SPD Patrol Officer investigated the case in conjunction with SPD’s Major Crimes Unit, to develop probable cause to arrest both suspects.

The female would connect with men, both on-line and in person, under the false pretense of connecting for a date or in one case, seeking a ride home. Grimm-Harrington would then lure the men to the couple’s apartment, in the Gonzaga area, where Garry would rob them with a replica or actual firearm. In one case, the couple forced a man to take them to an ATM and remove cash.

Both suspects were booked into the Spokane County Jail on 2 counts of 1st Degree Robbery and 2 counts of 1st Degree Kidnapping each. Garry is a 4 time convicted felon.
