On August 15th, 2024 at 11:53am, Spokane Police responded to a home in the area of 600 W Spofford after 911 was advised a female was observed forcibly entering a residence.  The caller advised the female suspect was observed throwing a brick at a window, breaking it and gaining entry.

911 was also told by the caller that this female has been seen breaking into the same home in the past.  Officers arrived on scene to find a broken window at the location.  As the residence was checked, it appeared several doors had been barricaded shut.  Information obtained during the investigation revealed the identity of the female suspect and there was a court order in place prohibiting her from being at this particular residence.

Just before 1pm officers attempted to make contact with the female, but there was no response or cooperation.   Due to the safety concerns inside the home SPD SWAT, K9, Hostage Negotiators (HNT) and the SPD Air Support Unit arrived to assist with the call.  Repeat attempts were made to establish contact with the female.  Officers could see the suspect moving within the home, but she would not comply with any of the requests to surrender.  HNT attempted phone/text contact with her, but again there was no response.  Efforts to establish communication continued for hours with no success.

A search warrant was applied for and granted to assist in the arrest of the female.  After repeated attempts to establish communication failed, officers introduced chemical irritants into the home.   Shortly after that, the female surrendered to officers.  Kyza R. Richardson (31) was arrested and booked into the Spokane County Jail for 1st Degree Burglary, 1st Degree Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Violation of a Court Order and 3rd Degree Malicious Mischief- Domestic Violence.  The weapon charge was added after officers found evidence that Richardson had a firearm in her possession at one point while inside the residence.

Richardson has an extensive criminal history with prior felony convictions for Criminal Mischief involving a weapon and 2nd Degree Taking Motor Vehicle without permission.
