Monday, November 4, 2024 at 10:50 a.m.

On October 31st, 2024 just before 7am, SPD responded to a business in the 3000 block of East Sprague Avenue on a report of a possible burglary.  An employee of the business advised 911 that an unknown subject was visible on security video removing tires from a white truck that was parked in the lot.

The video also showed the subject gaining access to the interior of the vehicle.  Officers quickly responded and observed a white truck parked in the lot with tires missing.  As the officers approached the vehicle, a male subject who was hiding nearby, attempted to run from the location.  Officers quickly detained the male in the parking lot.

Officers located the missing truck tires behind the business and also found the entry point, a cut fence.  At the completion of the investigation, the male was taken into custody.  Brandon S. Machala (39) was arrested and booked into the Spokane County Jail for 2nd Degree Burglary.  Machala has extensive criminal history with prior felony convictions for Retail Theft.

The arrest is another example of technology (security video) and the quick response of officers combining to stop a crime in progress.
