Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at 2:02 p.m.

On November 20th, 2024 at 11:41am, Spokane Police responded to the area of Ash and Wellesley on a report that a student was possibly in possession of a weapon on a school campus.  This information was brought forward to school officials by concerned students.  Officers arrived at the school within minutes of the initial 911 call.  After collecting additional information, officers developed a plan to ensure the safety of students and staff.  Two students were detained during the investigation and it was discovered that one of them was in possession of an airsoft style handgun.

A minor was taken into custody for Possession of a Weapon on School Grounds and booked into the Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center.

The Spokane Police Department maintains a strong partnership with Spokane Public Schools to ensure safety for students and staff.  This was another positive outcome where the safety of the campus was aided by concerned students.  SPD would like to remind community members to please report school safety concerns to 911.
