Original Release:
The Spokane Police Major Crimes Unit (MCU) is investigating a series of intentionally set fires that happened early this morning. Police are currently following up on any and all leads. Anyone who believes they have applicable surveillance footage is asked to call Crime Check at 509.456.2233 so officers can collect the evidence.
At approximately 4:15am today, July 8, 2025, the Spokane Fire Department responded to a fire at My Fresh Basket in the 1000 block of west Summit Parkway. Crews were also called to a fire damaged electrical vehicle charging station on the Spokane Washington State University campus near Spokane Falls Blvd. and Pine St. as well as foliage on a median in that area that was vandalized at approximately 4:47am. About an hour after the initial fire on Summit, at 5:12am, crews responded to a structure fire in the 200 block of east 3rd Avenue. It was quickly ascertained there were 3 separate structures deliberately set ablaze in that area.
A total of 4 structures were set on fire. Fortunately, no one was injured in any of these incidents, but they are of great concern given the current forecast for hot, dry, and windy weather. Spokane Police MCU and Spokane Fire investigators have responded to gather evidence at each scene. Spokane Police are actively searching for more evidence and looking to determine if there are other related fires.
Anyone with surveillance footage that may be relevant who has not already been contacted by investigators is asked to call Crime Check at 509.456.2233 so officer can respond and determine if we need the footage as evidence.
