SPD launches alternative reporting option for sexual assault survivors

Seek Then Speak is a national resource created by EVAWI (Ending Violence Against Women International) to offer sexual assault survivors and their support people a way to privately gather helpful information and if they choose, begin the reporting process to law enforcement. Seek Then Speak WA recently went live to support survivors in Washington. This created a new pathway for SPD to adopt a Seek Then Speak reporting option to provide survivors with resources within Spokane.

“Seek” allows survivors and their support people to gather helpful information relating to medical care, supportive services, and other resources they may be in search of.

“Speak” allows survivors (18 years and older) to complete a self-guided interview at their own pace. This self-guided interview gathers critical information while also providing education to survivors such as why specific information is being asked, how it will be used, and what the survivors’ rights are throughout the process. Once the self-guided interview is complete it will generate a PDF. Survivors then have the option to save it for their records if they do not feel ready to report, or they can choose to submit it to law enforcement.
