Second arrest made in fatal East Spokane shooting
A second suspect in the fatal October 17th shooting was arrested last night in Olympia. Marius A. Velazquez (19) was taken into custody on a warrant for murder. Velazquez is the second suspect charged for the shooting that resulted in the death of an adult male on the 17th.
Zachary C. McGriff (33) is currently being held at the Spokane County Jail on charges of 1st Degree Murder and 1st Degree Robbery stemming from the shooting incident. He was originally taken into custody October 21st on a felony warrant for probation violations. Detectives later linked him to the shooting, charging him with the murder and robbery.
Detectives are still asking community members living in the area near the shooting to please check if any video evidence may have been captured. If so, please contact Crime Check at 509 456-2233.

On October 17th, 2025, at 7pm SPD patrol officers responded to the area of Mission and Cincinnati on a report of a shooting. Officers quickly located a male with a gunshot wound and began providing emergency medical aid. Medics arrived on scene and quickly transported the victim to a local hospital. Despite the efforts to save his life, the victim succumbed to his injuries.
Initial information suggests that the parties involved were known to each other and this was not a random act of violence.
Detectives with the SPD Major Crimes Unit (MCU) and Special Investigations Unit (SIU) are actively investigating the fatal shooting and are following up on multiple leads. Despite the proximity to the Gonzaga campus, there is no indication the incident had any connection to any students or staff.
