SPD Participates in a Statewide Motorcycle Safety Emphasis

This weekend, the Spokane Police Department is joining law enforcement agencies across Washington in a statewide traffic safety emphasis coordinated by the Washington Traffic Safety Commission (WTSC).

With more motorcycles on the road during the summer months, officers will conduct extra traffic enforcement focused on improving safety for both motorcyclists as well as other drivers on the road.

Over the past five years (2021-2025) motorcyclists accounted for sixteen percent of traffic fatalities, making motorcyclists some of the most vulnerable road users in Washington. It’s important for all drivers to stay alert, check blind spots, and share the road safely.

The goal of the emphasis is to reduce crashes through education, awareness, and enforcement, helping make Spokane’s roads safer for everyone this summer.
