Spokane Police Respond to Overnight Shooting in Garland District

On August 9^th around 1:30 am, Spokane police officers responded to the area of 800 W. Garland Ave for reports of a shooting. Multiple 911 callers reported a shooting in the area. Some callers reported one person had been shot and the suspect was fleeing the scene.

Officers responded to the scene and located an adult male with apparent wounds. The male victim was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. His injuries were later downgraded to non-life-threatening after receiving medical treatment at a local hospital.

Officers gathered witness statements, video footage, as well as a description and possible identity of the suspect. Initial information suggested there was an argument prior to the suspect shooting the victim. The suspect fled on foot and was located a short time later by responding officers.

The Major Crimes Unit was advised of the incident and responded.

Paul Maravilla (27) was arrested and booked into the Spokane County Jail for Assault 1^st Degree and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 1^st Degree.

This information is preliminary as this incident is still under investigation. This appears to be an isolated event, and all involved parties have been identified. There is no ongoing threat to the community.
