SPD Officer Reunites an 8-Year-Old Boy with His Bike After It Was Stolen

On August 20^th 2026, around 8:30 pm an SPD Sergeant was flagged down by a father near River Park Square.  The father explained to the Sergeant that his 8-year-old son’s brand-new bike had been stolen along with his helmet. They had arrived at the mall around 5:45 PM and just discovered it was missing, despite being secured to the bike rack.  The father went on to explain he had purchased the bike for his son after they lost everything in the Spokane Complex Fires.

Officers observed video footage of a male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a face mask taking the boy’s red CO-OP brand bike after arriving on a different bike.

The responding Sergeant sent photographs of the stolen bike to patrol officers for awareness.

On August 21^st, an astute officer noticed the bike near S. State St and W. Pacific Ave.  He confirmed the serial number on the bike matched that of the stolen bike and returned the bike to the young boy.

Unfortunately, the bike theft suspect has not been located or identified.
