Convicted Felon Arrested in Vancouver After Eluding SPD Officers

On September 8^th, 2026 officers with SPD’s Gun Crime Unit (GCU) attempted to stop Djuan C. Black, who was driving a silver Kia Optima. From prior history, the officers were aware Black was associated with violent crimes in the Spokane region; to include a 2025 arrest for Assault 1^st Degree and Robbery 1^st Degree after allegedly shooting a person.

The officers activated their emergency lights and sirens on their marked patrol vehicle and attempted to stop the Kia. Black proceeded to accelerate and drive in a reckless manner, putting the public at risk and almost causing a collision. With the safety of the surrounding public in mind, the officers deactivated their emergency lights and sirens and stopped following the Kia.

A short time later the officers learned the vehicle had been ditched in a nearby neighborhood and responded for further investigation. Upon watching video footage, they confirmed Black fled on foot. An attempt to track Black with a Spokane Police K9 unit was conducted but was unsuccessful.

A call came in later the same day reporting a gun, magazine, and bullets were located in the area of E. Grace Ave and N. Martin St. A nearby business had video footage, which captured Black throwing the gun from his vehicle as he drove by.

GCU continued their investigation and learned Black had fled to Vancouver, WA. A felony arrest warrant was issued, and on September 17^th, 2026, with cooperation from Vancouver Police Department, Djuan Black was taken into custody for Attempting to Elude a Police Vehicle and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 1^st Degree. As Vancouver Police Department executed a search of the apartment Black was at, two additional firearms were recovered. He faces two additional charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 1^st Degree and was booked into the Clark County Jail.

Black has multiple felony convictions including three Attempted Robbery 1^st convictions, therefore cannot legally own firearms.
