Lodging Tax Advisory Committee

Authorized by and Date: Pursuant to RCW 67.28.1817.

Mission Statement/Purpose: Pursuant to RCW 67.28.1817 there is established a lodging tax advisory committee to review and comment to the city council on any proposal to A. increase the rate of, B. repeal an exemption from, or C. change the use of revenue received from the special excise tax upon the furnishing of lodging authorized by RCW 67.28.180 (the 'hotel/motel' tax). The committee consists of five members nominated by the mayor and confirmed by the city council. The membership is comprised of A. two representatives of businesses required to collect the tax. B. two persons involved in activities authorized to be funded by the revenue from the tax; and C. one member of the city council, who shall chair the committee.

Lodging Tax Grants

LTAC grants have already been allocated for 2019 and the 2020 application process will begin in the fall. Grant funds totaling over $115,000 are to be divided among projects that promote eligible tourism and cultural activities in the City of Spokane. The grant money comes from the City's share of taxes on overnight stays within the City limits.

Committee Membership: Per Spokane Municipal Code Section 04.30.020 The committee consists of seven members nominated by the mayor and appointed by the city council. The membership is comprised of:

  1. three representatives of businesses required to collect the tax;
  2. three persons involved in activities authorized to be funded by the revenue from the tax; and
  3. one member of the city council, who shall chair the committee.
