Yesteday at approximately 5 pm, units from the Spokane Fire Department (SFD) were dispatched to the park adjacent to Garry Junior High (725 E Joseph) for a child stuck in a tree. The first arriving fire department unit discovered a 9 year old boy approximately 50 feet up in a large pine tree. The incident was quickly upgraded to a full Technical Rescue incident, summoning the response of the SFD's Technical Rescue Team from Station 4 in the downtown area.

Upon their arrival, Technical Rescue Team members rapidly scaled the tree, secured the boy with a rope system and lowered him to the ground. The rescue evolution lasted approximately 50 minutes and the boy was safely brought down uninjured.

SFD was unable to utilize any of its large Ladder Trucks to remove the boy due to the weight of the trucks and the location of the tree within the park.
