At 12:16 p.m., the Spokane Fire Department (SFD) was dispatched to a structure fire in the 1900 block of W. Indiana Ave.

Crews arrived to find an attached garage fully involved with fire. Smoke and flames had already traveled to the attached home and had progressed into the attic space.

First arriving SFD crews quickly extinguished the main body of fire in the garage and then proceeded to attack the remaining fire in the attic space of the adjoining home.

The fire was controlled by seven engine companies, two ladder trucks and one alternative response unit (ARU). A total of 30 firefighters worked to contain the fire. Extra apparatus were called to assist in the extinguishment effort due to the toll the fire put on firefighters from high ambient air temperatures.

Avista Utilities responded to secure the natural gas meter and to de-energize the electrical service to the home.

There were no reported injuries to any civilians or firefighters.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by members of the Spokane Fire Department Special Investigation Unit (SIU).
