On Monday at 2:29 PM, the Spokane Fire Department (SFD) responded to a Civilian Fatality Structure Fire in the Ponderosa Mobile Home Park at 6417 North Cincinnati on Spokane's North Side.

A 911 call was initiated by a concerned neighbor who noticed what appeared to be soot on his neighbor's mobile home windows. Firefighters forced entry into the structure and found horrific living conditions in the interior. Additionally, the home's utilities had been turned off to the structure. In response, it appears the occupant had set up a full-size BBQ in the kitchen and a small one in the bedroom to heat the space.

Firefighters located the residence's sole occupant during their search and determined immediately that her injuries were incompatible with life. The deceased occupant was a 61-year old female. The nature of the fire appears accidental, and the cause remains undetermined.

There were no smoke alarms or CO detectors in this residence. This fatality is the City of Spokane's third fire-related death in 2020.
