Thursday, Jan. 14, 8 PM, the Spokane Fire Department (SFD) was dispatched to the 600 block of West 20th Avenue in the South Hill for multiple reports of a one and a half story home with its back porch on fire.

Firefighters arrived in less than five minutes to find both a large exterior fire with a fully engulfed car next to the house. Fuel from the vehicle was leaking onto the ground sending a continual fireball into the home. The fire had extended into the first and second floors of the house on the arrival of first-arriving crews.

The occupants of the home safely evacuated outside before fire crews arrived. The house sustained significant damage throughout. Firefighters remained on the scene all night to prevent rekindle.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the SFD Special Investigations Unit.
