Pay attention to what documents are required to apply for a position. If you don't upload the required documents, you will not move forward in the hiring process. Examples of documents that may be requested are high school transcripts, college transcripts, references, certifications.

Make sure to include all required information in your application when you submit it. To avoid any biases, analysts will only look at the information submitted through the form on governmentjobs.com. This means they will not view an uploaded copy of your resume, so “see resume” should not be an answer to any of your questions.

We communicate via email, so make sure to check it regularly. If you are not receiving emails from our department, make sure to check your spam.

Timelines

A test for a position does not guarantee that the position is vacant at that time. We create candidate lists that are active for two years. Multiple departments will use this list when they have an opening until the list is exhausted. If you pass the test, you will receive your rank on the exam. If there is not an active vacancy, you may be called for an interview within a two-year period. If you are curious what the hiring timeline or next steps are for a specific position you’ve applied for, please reach out to us at 509.625.6160.

Because timelines can vary, we recommend signing up for job notifications. This tool will send you emails on positions that we will be testing for. You will be able to select what types of positions you receive notifications on. You can sign up for this feature.

Most positions are only open for a specific amount of time. Make sure to apply as soon as possible and give yourself time to collect any documents that are required for upload.

Testing

Tests are all customized to the position you are applying to ensure candidates meet the qualifications, have the appropriate skills for the position, and positions are earned on the basis of individual merit. Tests may contain any combination of formats including multiple choice, written exercise, oral interview, training & experience, and more. Please view the “Examination Details” section of the job listing to find out what will be required for the position you are applying.

If you are taking an online exam, we encourage starting early in case you have any technical difficulties.

Candidates who score at or above the pass point for this test will be placed on an eligibility list. The top ten names on the eligibility list are then provided to hiring managers. Hiring managers must consider candidates in their ranked order when filling a vacant position. Eligibility lists are valid for two years or until exhausted.
