City closures planned for the Holidays

Riverfront Park attractions open except on Christmas Day

The City of Spokane will have a number of closures related to the holidays. Spokane City Hall will be closed at noon on Wednesdays, Dec. 24 and 31, and all day Thursdays, Dec. 25 and Jan.1, in observance of the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.

The Spokane City Council is not scheduled to meet on Mondays, Dec. 22 and 29. Council meetings will resume on Monday, Jan. 5, with a 3:30 p.m. briefing session and 6 p.m. legislative session. Both meetings will be held in the City Council Chambers in the lower level of City Hall, 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd.

Parking meters don’t have to be plugged on Thursdays, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. And, the Spokane Municipal Court will be closed on Thursdays, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.

All Spokane Public Library branches will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 24 and 25, for the Christmas holiday and on Thursday, Jan. 1, for New Year’s. Additionally, the Downtown Library will close early – at 6 p.m. instead of 8 p.m. – on Thursday, Dec. 31. For events at the library during the holidays, go to the events calendar.

City of Spokane garbage pickup and curbside recycling will not be picked up on Thursdays, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, and will be a day late following the holidays, with Friday collections occurring on Saturday. Downtown night routes aren’t affected by the holidays. The Waste-to-Energy facility will be closed on Thursdays, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, but open all other days from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Waste Management solid waste collection will be on the same schedule as the City. Other haulers may have different schedules; check with your provider.)

Meanwhile, the Riverfront Park attractions, including the Looff Carrousel, Spokane Falls Skyride, Enchanted Forest Mini-Golf, and Ice Palace will be open throughout the holiday season with the exception of Christmas Day, when park attractions will be closed. The Winter Glow Spectacular light display in Riverfront Park continues through Dec. 31. More information is available at www.spokanewinterglow.com.

The park also is featuring a $14 Winter Combo special that includes one Ice Palace admission with skate rental, one SkyRide experience, one 9-hole round of mini-golf, and one Carrousel ride.  Go to the park’s web site for information.
