Construction Will Require Temporary Browne Street Lane Reductions

The City of Spokane is starting construction for the Pacific Avenue Greenway this week. The project will create an east-west bike route from Howard Street to Sherman Street, improving pedestrian safety and connecting downtown Spokane to the University District. Enhancements include bike lanes, pedestrian crosswalks, green space, and signal updates.

Drivers traveling through downtown Spokane on Browne Street between Main Avenue and Pacific Avenue will have scheduled lane reductions beginning tonight, Sept. 14th. This initial phase of the project is expected to last until approximately Oct. 9th. Drivers are urged to plan ahead, allow for extra time, and be alert for frequent traffic changes. Please slow down for everyone’s safety and make extra effort to support businesses impacted by the necessary projects. What to expect on weekdays between 5 a.m. and 8 p.m. and on weekends:

  • Drivers traveling southbound on Browne Street will be merged into two lanes starting at Main Avenue through Pacific Avenue.
  • Browne Street will open back up to four southbound lanes between Pacific Avenue and 4th Avenue.
  • Pacific Avenue will be closed to through traffic between Division Street and McClellan Street.
  • Plan for taking extra time on this route as this will cause slowdowns as traffic reduces speed around the construction zone.
  • Access to businesses will be maintained and the public is reminded to make the extra effort to support them.

What to expect overnight during the week between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.:

  • Drivers traveling southbound on Browne Street will be merged into one lane starting at Main Avenue through Pacific Avenue.
  • Browne Street will open back up to four southbound lanes between Pacific Avenue and 4th Avenue.
  • Pacific Avenue will be closed to through traffic between Division Street and McClellan Street.
  • Plan for taking extra time on this route as this will cause slowdowns as traffic reduces speed around the construction zone.

Access to businesses will be maintained and the public is reminded to make the extra effort to support them.
