The holidays are just around the corner and My Spokane 311 has all the details on City closures, things to do this holiday season, and a holiday gift guide!
The City of Spokane will have a number of closures related to the holidays. Spokane City Hall will be closed on Monday, Dec. 24, and Tuesdays, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, in observance of Christmas and New Year’s. Parking meters do not have to be plugged on Tuesdays, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.
City of Spokane garbage pickup and curbside recycling will be a day late following the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. Residents with regular Friday service those weeks will have service on Saturday. The Waste-to-Energy facility will be closed on Tuesdays, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, but open all other days from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Following the Christmas holiday, we will offer free curbside pickup of Christmas trees for our customers Wednesday, Dec. 26, through Friday, Jan. 11. Once the decorations are removed, residents can dispose their fresh-cut trees (trunks no bigger than three inches in diameter) on their regularly scheduled garbage pickup days. If your tree is taller than six feet, please cut it in half.
Meanwhile, most holiday packaging material is recyclable and can go into blue recycling carts. Gift wrap, except for metallic foil paper and cellophane, is recyclable, along with cardboard boxes and wrapping paper rolls. Styrofoam, plastic bags, plastic wrap, gift bags, and tissue paper should go in the brown refuse carts.
During the holiday season, many Riverfront Spokane attractions will have extended hours! The Riverfront Spokane Skate Ribbon will have extended hours from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. from Saturday, Dec. 22 to Sunday, Jan. 6. The Looff Carrousel will also have extended holiday hours, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Saturday, Dec. 22 through Sunday, Jan. 6. All Riverfront Spokane attractions will be closed on Christmas Day.
The Manito Park Gaiser Conservatory is decorated with over 30,000 beautiful holiday lights! You can visit this winter wonderland from 12-3:30 p.m. until Monday, Dec. 31. The conservatory will be closed on Christmas Day.
Riverfront Spokane will be hosting a New Year’s Eve Celebration on Monday, Dec. 31. We will countdown with the East Coast for a family friendly celebration with fireworks at 9:00 p.m. near the Clock Tower. This is a FREE event. Party favors will be handed out to the first 500 people at the Sky Ribbon Cafe starting at 7:00 p.m.
