Youth baseball and youth and adult softball teams that play on Field 5 at Franklin Park Softball Complex will now be playing on a completely renovated field.
Over the past couple of years the staff has worked hard to provide much needed attention to the complex with work completed on painting the buildings, major power washing of the pavers and walking surfaces, repairs to bathrooms, fixing of the field lights, and repairs to irrigation and turf.
Now, work is underway that will result in major improvements to the fields themselves. It's been 20 years since the fields at Franklin have had this level of attention.
Field 5 was selected to be worked on first because staff deemed it to be in the worst shape of the five fields at Franklin Park.
Work included surveying the field, tilling in 2 tons of ball infield mix and conditioners, and leveling and crowning the playing surface.
The staff now plans to focus on the other four fields at Franklin and eventually Merkel fields will be done as well.
