“We heard from the community a desire to improve playgrounds and restrooms in neighborhood parks, and this renovation is an example of that neighborhood investment,” said Garrett Jones, interim city administrator. “I love that Liberty Park has a vibrant library, aquatic center, trail connectivity, and now disc golf to add to its playground and green space amenities. The goal is to create safe, active neighborhood spaces where communities gather.”
The renovated park includes a new 4,000+ square foot playground, with a rubberized walking surface, equipment selected by neighborhood children. A renovated restroom facility and large picnic pavilion is also onsite.
Adjacent to the playground, a disc golf course is already seeing great use. A tournament to celebrate the new course is planned for November 4.
Underground, a modern, automated irrigation system replaced outdated manual watering equipment.
Construction began in May. The playground, restroom, and irrigation projects cost $775,000, funded by American Rescue Plan funds designated from the City Council, Spokane Public Library (co-location funding for the Liberty Park Library), and the Spokane Parks & Recreation budget.
