Crime Prevention Assessments

Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED)

Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) is a proactive approach to reducing crime by improving the design, layout, and visibility of physical spaces. The Spokane Police Department has officers specially trained to conduct CPTED assessments for local businesses, organizations, and property owners.

These assessments evaluate things like:

  • Lighting and visibility
  • Entry points and access control
  • Landscaping and physical layout
  • Surveillance opportunities (natural and technological)

CPTED principles help make spaces safer, more welcoming, and less attractive to criminal activity.
