Missing Persons

If you're worried about a loved one who hasn't been in contact, SPD is here to help. Learn when and how to file a missing person report and access a checklist that can help streamline the process.

Report Missing Persons

There is no waiting period to report someone missing.

Please Note:
Not all situations qualify for a missing person report. Being out of touch with family or friends is not, by itself, considered a crime. Adults aged 18 or older have the legal right to choose how they live their lives, including whether or not to maintain contact with others.

Because of the time-intensive nature of these investigations, law enforcement is not able to serve as a means to reconnect family members who are voluntarily out of contact.

Before Reporting

Please check with:

  • Friends, family, and workplaces
  • Local hospitals and jails
  • Usual hangouts

Have one designated person make the report and serve as the point of contact with police.

Checklist

Download our Missing Person Checklist, which can help streamline the process.
When ready, call 509.456.2233 to begin the process. Crime Check staff will determine if your case meets the criteria for a report to be taken.
