The first officers on scene heard what they believed to be a gunshot, so they backed away and called for additional resources. Officers later determined a round was fired in the home. The man was taken into police custody and transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation.

This morning 08/12/2014, just before 6 a.m., Spokane Police responded to a house in the 300 block of E. Sanson. A male had called 911 saying he needed help. Upon arrival, officers were told by other people in the house that a subject inside was seen earlier with a gun. Officers heard what sounded like a gun shot, and for their safety and the safety of others in the area, they backed out of the house and called for more units to assist.

Negotiators and on duty SWAT were called to the scene and were able to make contact with the subject through a window. Just after 7 a.m., he came out of the house and was taken into custody without further incident. Officers did determine that he had fired a round from a gun at the location. The subject was taken to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation.
